About the site

After writing for different lifestyle magazines I, Julie Shennan, decided to go it alone and create Artsnfaffs.

It’s my take on the Scottish (and wider) arts scene; with interviews, features and comment.

The site includes: festivals, visual arts, theatre, dance, sports and other things to faff with.

All Artsnfaffs writing is my own original work.

    Would just like to drop you a message saying how much I have enjoyed scrolling through your website. I am a big lover of both the arts and my home city, Glasgow and your page and the writing on it bring the two together beautifully!

    I would also like to ask to be considered to write a piece for your website. I have a few ideas that I feel ties into the same themes of your website.

    I am a 21 year old aspiring writer and painter. I am currently doing a masters at Glasgow uni researching gay and transgender rights and also take an oil painting course at GSA. Whilst at uni, I have always been around the arts scene in Glasgow, working at The Arches for two years and then Hillhead bookclub and now SWG3, all of which have held many interesting events. I am also an active member lf the gay scene in Glasgow, attending club nights and activists events. Finally, I am a big lover of the music scene in Glasgow and go to many club nights and gigs.

    I would love to write a piece that is a review of one of sort of events and for it to be featured on the website.

    I hope your interested and would like to dicuss it a bit further but again, love the work you’re doing!

      Firstly thank you for your kind words about Artsnfaffs! It’s great to get feedback on features.

      I’m glad to hear that you are an arts enthusiast too and I would love to read some of your work.

      Unfortunately Artsnfaffs doesn’t hold guest features, the site’s founding purpose was to be a non commercial solo project.

      Please don’t let this deter you! There are plenty of great outlets to which you can submit arts journalism.

      One I would particularly recommend is Scotcampus Magazine. The team are very friendly and easy to work with. Writing for this magazine is unpaid, however, you could get your work both online and in print.

      If this appeals then just email the editor Michael Edwards, at michael.edwards@scotcampus.com, and explain your interest.

      Aside from that why not consider starting your own arts site/blog? It has allowed me to choose to my own briefs and schedule an I have found it really enjoyable.

      WordPress has been a great host for me, but there are plenty of blog sites and how to guides out there.

      If you do decide to start your own venture I would be happy to follow you on social media!
